"I'm a lucky man." So goes the title of Montgomery Gentry's new song. It's a good song too! (Don't tell anyone I'm a Montgomery Gentry fan!) Now of course, it goes without saying that followers of Christ should not believe in luck. The Bible says "every good and perfect gift is from above." We know that all good things come from God. That being said, you know what I mean, when I say that I'm a "lucky man" to be married to Rachel Ann Hall.
Eight years ago today, Rachel and I exchanged our vows at First Baptist Church in Licking, MO. Rachel planned a traditional, and reverent ceremony, that went off without a hitch. I was proud of our wedding. Needless to say for those of you who know her, she was a beautiful bride! We didn't have a lot of money, so we honeymooned for a week in Branson. To this day, we agree that first week of our marriage was the most special and magical time of our life. Everyone that knows Rachel, knows she is pretty and sweet. What some may not know, is that she is highly intelligent and competent. There is nothing she could not do or achieve, if she put her mind to it. I am convinced she could have pursued any career field and been successful. After all, how many 19 year-old girls could thrive as a pastor's wife? I am proud of her, and would marry her 100 times over.
Went fishing Saturday morning, at a spot on Finley Creek. The water was still high enough that the creek looked far different than normal. Spots I wade across that usually strike me at the knees were striking me at the belly button. Thought I was going to have a good trip early on... Second cast of the morning I landed a 13 inch smallmouth on a white lunker lure. Didn't get a stinking bite the rest of the morning! I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure it takes awhile for the fish to get "back into the groove," after the creek roars like it did last week. I'm looking forward to getting my quiet little pools of water back. Makes the fishing a lot easier, although it's good for the creek to "get on a roll" once in awhile... stirs things up, cleans things out.
Will the Cardinals bring up Rick Ankiel to play center field already? I'm ready to see what Rick can do! What a great story it will be, if he turns into a quality major league baseball player!
