I laugh at that title... It makes me sound old! But I can't help it. I am Missouri Ozarks, born and bred. And while I appreciate many genres of music, above all else, I still love to hear a good, traditional country song. And not the trashy "tear in my beer" stuff either, but pure music with a clear melody and simple lyrics.
Along those lines, probably my favorite artist right now is a guy named Josh Turner. Josh, and his wife Jennifer, are outspoken Christians. You can hear testimony of Josh's faith in several of his songs such as, "Long Black Train," and "Me and God."
Josh and Jennifer are also very committed to their marriage. Jennifer, like Josh, is musically gifted and sings backup in Josh's band. The couple made the decision to tour together, to eliminate the um, "temptations" that are often presented to handsome male artists on the road. Rachel and I are always impressed when we see the video for the song "Just to Be Your Man," in which Jennifer plays Josh's love interest. How often do you see that? You can tell that their chemistry on the video is very real. I wish marriage was portrayed more often in this light!
Thus far in his career, Josh has given a wonderful testimony of Christ through his choices in lifestyle and songs. We really need to pray for people like Josh. There are many temptations when you're a celebrity, and we know how much the enemy loves to bring down Christians in the public eye.
