1 CORINTHIANS 5:1-8
Main Idea:
Paul urged
the Corinthians to confront the sin in their midst and practice church
discipline.
Principles in Text:
Christians,
too often, act like the world (1).
Sin in the church should be met with grief and appropriate action (2).
Church
discipline is carried out by the body, under the direction of its Scriptural
leaders, in the authority and
power of the Lord Jesus (3-5).
The
ultimate goal of church discipline is the restoration/salvation of the offender
(5).
Sin in the
church that is not addressed will spread and grow (6).
To
ignore/overlook sin in the church, is to devalue the sacrifice of Christ (7-8).
